Driving Lesson Terms

What you can expect from us, what we ask of you, and how lessons, blocks and payments work.

Draft: awaiting final review by FOF Driving School

About these terms

These terms apply when you book driving lessons or buy lesson blocks from FOF Driving School Manchester (run by Awaiting confirmation: the instructor's full name as a sole trader). Contact us by email at fofabass@yahoo.com or phone 07939 737132.

Please read them with our Booking, cancellation and refund policy, which explains cancellations and refunds in detail. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Booking and confirmation

You can book online, by phone or by email. Online, you choose a lesson, check we cover your pickup postcode and pick an available time, at least 24 hours ahead.

If you're new to us, your first booking is sent to your instructor as a request first; after that, bookings are usually confirmed straight away. A request isn't a booked lesson until your instructor accepts it. We'll email you when your booking is confirmed, declined, moved or cancelled, and a reminder the day before.

What we ask of you

  • Hold a valid provisional or full UK driving licence for the vehicle category, and bring it to your lessons. Your instructor may ask to see it.
  • Meet the legal eyesight standard, wearing glasses or contact lenses if you need them to.
  • Be fit to drive: not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and not taking anything that affects your ability to drive.
  • Keep your contact details and pickup address up to date, and be ready at your pickup address at the start time.
  • Tell your instructor before the lesson about anything that might affect your driving or safety.

What you can expect from us

We'll teach you with reasonable care and skill and keep you informed about your progress.

Awaiting confirmation: details of the tuition car (for example dual controls and tuition insurance) and the instructor's DVSA qualification, to be stated here once confirmed

Occasionally we may need to change or cancel a lesson, for example because of illness, unsafe weather or road conditions, or a problem with the car. We'll tell you as soon as we can and offer another time, or return any lesson credit or payment for that lesson.

Your instructor may refuse to start, or may end, a lesson if continuing wouldn't be safe or legal, for example if you don't have a valid licence with you or aren't fit to drive.

Start times, lateness and missed lessons

Lessons start and finish at the booked times. Please contact your instructor as early as possible if you're running late or can't make it.

If you're late: Awaiting confirmation: what happens to the lesson time and price when a pupil is late

If you're not at the pickup address and we can't reach you: Awaiting confirmation: how a missed lesson (no-show) is treated

If your instructor is running late, they'll let you know. Awaiting confirmation: how lost lesson time is made up when the instructor is late

Moving and cancelling lessons

You can move or cancel lessons yourself online up to a set time before the lesson starts. The notice periods, what happens closer to the time, and refunds are explained in our Booking, cancellation and refund policy.

Lesson blocks and credit

When you buy a block, the hours are added to your account as credit. Each time you book using credit, the length of that lesson is taken from your balance. You can see your balance and history at any time in your pupil portal under Credits, or ask us.

If a lesson booked with credit is cancelled within the allowed notice, or cancelled by us, the hours are returned to your balance automatically.

Expiry: Awaiting confirmation: whether lesson credit expires, and after how long

Unused credit: you can cancel a block you bought within 14 days, as explained in our Booking, cancellation and refund policy. After that, Awaiting confirmation: whether unused hours can be refunded later, and how

Paying for lessons

Depending on what's offered when you book, you can:

  • pay your instructor for the lesson, by the method you agree with them;
  • use lesson credit from a block you've bought;

We don't take deposits.

Promo codes and gift vouchers can be used as described with the code or voucher.

Gift vouchers

A gift voucher adds lesson hours to the recipient's account when they enter the code in their pupil portal. Each code can be used once, before the expiry date shown on it.

Progress records, mock tests and lesson reports

Your instructor records your progress against driving skill areas, mock test results and lesson reports, which you can see in your pupil portal. These help you learn. They are not an official DVSA assessment and don't guarantee that you'll pass your practical test, which depends on your driving on the day and the examiner's assessment.

Parents and guardians

You can invite a parent or guardian to follow your lessons. They need their own account, created with the email address the invitation was sent to, and they see only what you or your instructor allow. Access can be changed or removed at any time, and the account and records remain the pupil's.

Your information and messages

We use your details to run your lessons and send booking emails, as explained in our Privacy policy. Offers and news are only sent if you've opted in; see Marketing and unsubscribe.

Our responsibility and your rights

We're responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill or to keep to these terms. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything that can't be limited by law.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, our services must be provided with reasonable care and skill. If they aren't, you can ask us to put it right or, if that isn't possible, for a price reduction. These terms don't remove any of your statutory rights.

Complaints and changes

If you're unhappy with anything, please tell us. Our Complaints procedure explains how.

We may update these terms. Changes don't affect lessons already booked unless the law requires it or you agree. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales; if you live elsewhere in the UK, your local mandatory protections still apply.
